Personal Project / Website / UI Focus

A personal project that transforms our wedding into an interactive digital experience, blending storytelling, thoughtful interactions, and essential event information into one memorable journey for our guests.
Project overview
Overview
Our wedding was more than a celebration. It was an opportunity to create a digital experience that reflected our personalities while making it easy for guests to access everything they needed before the event.
Instead of relying on traditional invitations, I designed and developed an interactive wedding website that combined storytelling, event information, RSVP, and guest engagement into one cohesive experience. The goal was to create something memorable for our family and friends while exploring visual storytelling, interaction design, and front-end implementation.
What I actually did in the project
I owned the project from end to end, including concept development, UX strategy, interface design, visual identity, interaction design, illustrations, responsive implementation in Framer, and content writing.
I also conducted informal user testing with friends and family to validate navigation, readability, and usability across different age groups before launch.
The Challenges
Wedding websites are often template-based and primarily focus on logistics. While functional, many feel generic and fail to reflect the couple behind the celebration.
I wanted to design an experience that balanced emotion with usability. Guests should be able to quickly find important information while also enjoying the story behind the wedding.
The biggest challenge was designing for a diverse audience. Some guests were comfortable with technology, while others rarely interacted with modern websites. The experience needed to feel intuitive regardless of age or technical familiarity.

A Wedding Website with Personality
Research Summary
Before designing, I explored existing wedding websites to understand how guests typically interact with digital invitations and what information they value most.
Key findings
Most wedding websites prioritize event information but overlook storytelling.
Navigation is often linear and text-heavy.
Mobile experience is essential, as most guests access invitations on their phones.
Guests primarily visit practical sections such as the schedule, venue, gallery, and directions.
These insights helped shape the website's information architecture, ensuring that important details remained easy to find while leaving room for a more personal storytelling experience.
Visual Research
To establish the visual direction, I explored references beyond traditional wedding websites, including editorial design, magazines, branding projects, and premium lifestyle experiences. The goal was to create an experience that felt timeless, elegant, and personal rather than a typical digital invitation.
Several recurring design principles emerged:
Editorial-inspired layouts with expressive typography, generous whitespace, and clear visual hierarchy.
Photography-first composition, allowing imagery to communicate emotion while keeping the interface minimal.
A refined color palette of warm neutrals complemented by rich accent colors to create an intimate atmosphere.
Print-inspired aesthetics, drawing from magazines, postcards, and invitation cards to give the website the feeling of a curated keepsake.
Subtle interactions and motion, supporting the content without distracting from it.
These references became the foundation of the website's visual language, influencing everything from typography and color to layout and overall presentation.

Visual Direction
The visual language was inspired by the feeling we wanted our wedding to evoke: timeless, intimate, and elegant. I created a moodboard to define the overall aesthetic before translating it into a cohesive visual system.
The interface combines rich burgundy, deep navy, and soft ivory with elegant typography and generous whitespace to create an editorial-inspired experience. Rather than treating the website as a digital invitation, I designed it as an immersive story that reflects our personalities while remaining simple and intuitive for guests.

Final Design
The final website combined storytelling with practical functionality.
Opening Experience
The homepage sets the emotional tone before presenting any practical information. A full-screen hero image, cinematic typography, ambient animations, and subtle motion create a quiet introduction that feels more like opening a storybook than reading an invitation.
Rather than asking guests to immediately interact with the interface, the experience invites them to slow down and explore.

Telling Our Story
Instead of presenting a traditional timeline, I designed this section as a collection of meaningful memories.
Photos, music, favorite games, beloved pets, and personal moments are arranged like keepsakes scattered across a canvas. Each element reveals another piece of our relationship, allowing guests to discover our story naturally instead of reading it chronologically.
The result feels personal and conversational, reflecting how memories are actually remembered.

Introducing the Couple
Rather than writing conventional biographies, each profile highlights our personalities through editorial layouts, photography, and playful storytelling.
Visual motifs such as chess pieces, typography, and subtle decorative elements reinforce our individual identities while maintaining a cohesive visual language throughout the experience.

Photo Gallery
To tell our story visually, I designed a horizontally scrollable gallery featuring moments from different stages of our relationship. The continuous layout makes browsing feel more natural and immersive, allowing guests to discover memories one by one instead of viewing everything at once.

Event Information
Practical information was designed with clarity as the priority.
Wedding events are organized chronologically with generous spacing, clear visual hierarchy, and supporting imagery for each venue. Interactive directions and RSVP actions reduce friction while preserving the site's overall aesthetic.
Although this is the most functional section of the website, it still feels consistent with the storytelling established throughout the experience.

Countdown & Farewell
The final section brings the experience to a gentle close. A countdown marks the anticipation leading up to our wedding day, serving as a simple reminder of the celebration ahead.
The journey ends with a personal thank-you message rather than a conventional footer. Inspired by the final page of a book, it expresses our gratitude to everyone who has been part of our story and leaves guests with a quiet, heartfelt ending that mirrors the emotional tone established at the beginning of the website.

Retrospective
Building this website reminded me that meaningful experiences don't always come from commercial products. Designing for family and friends challenged me to think beyond functionality and create something that felt personal, memorable, and easy to use.
Working on every part of the project, from storytelling and visual identity to interactions and implementation, gave me the freedom to explore ideas outside my day-to-day product work. It strengthened my ability to balance creativity with usability while reinforcing the importance of thoughtful details in shaping an overall experience.
Design with intention
Every visual choice should support the story you're trying to tell, not just make the interface look beautiful.
Emotion needs structure
A memorable experience starts with clear information architecture. Storytelling works best when users never feel lost.
Details create delight
Small interactions, subtle animations, and thoughtful copy can turn a simple website into an experience people remember.
